Research Masters & PhD Scholarships at Macquarie University, Australia

2019 International Research Training Program scholarship (iRTP) and International Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship program (iMQRES)
The main scholarship round for international candidates is the International Research Training Program scholarship (iRTP). The International Research Training Program is the Australian Commonwealth Government scholarship scheme for supporting international higher degree research candidates of exceptional promise.
Applicants applying for an iRTP will be automatically considered for the University funded International Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship program (iMQRES) in the same round.
Applicants should refer to main round scholarships as either ‘iRTP’ or ‘iMQRES’ within their application. No allocation reference numbers apply.
Successful iRTP candidates will receive:
  • Tuition fee offset for 3 years maximum
  • Stipend (tax exempt, indexed annually, 2018 rate $27,082pa)
  • Travel Concession (applied to local transport OPAL Card)
Successful iMQRES candidates will receive
  • Tuition fee offset for 3 years maximum
  • Stipend (tax exempt, indexed annually, 2018 rate $27,082pa)
Macquarie also offers a limited number of scholarships to international Master of Research (MRes) candidates. They must be applying for an ‘MRes/PhD 1+3 bundle’ (i.e. MRes Year 2 and 3 year PhD) through this competitive IRTP round. Successful candidates will be awarded a provisional PhD offer, and they will be considered for a 3 year PhD scholarship on a competitive basis upon successful completion of MRes Year 2.
Scholarship Eligibility:
  • International candidates commencing their PhD or MPhil program in 2019 on a full time basis
  • Have already completed, or expect to complete in 2018 a research master’s degree
  • Applicants must meet Macquarie University academic admission requirements, including the minimum English language requirements. English waivers will not be considered.
  • Candidates are expected to undertake full time, internal, on-site candidature at Macquarie University and be located within the wider Sydney Metropolitan area during my candidature
  • Candidates will be rated against the criteria outlined on the MQ HDR scholarship rating sheet, and in accordance with the MQ Research Training Program Scholarship Guidelines

All applicants must read the additional information for applicants for important information regarding the application process. Applications for 2019 will open in May 2018 and close on 31 July 2018.

May 2018: International Scholarship round for 2019 commencement OPENS (PhD, MRes Y2 with scholarship)
31 July 2018: International Scholarship round for 2019 CLOSES
Mid-October 2018 onwards: International Scholarship round outcomes issued.
